Research Assistant Position Available

Research Assistant, Journal of the American Academy of Religion

There is a position open for one half-time research assistant, preferably a graduate student at CGU in Religion, to assist with editing of the Journal of the American Academy of Religion (JAAR).  As of January 2016, Professor Cynthia Eller will be editor of the journal, but the research assistant position begins in Fall 2015, as there will be several months of transition from the current editor, Amir Hussain, to the incoming editor.

Tasks associated with this position include:
•    reading incoming manuscripts to assess their suitability for JAAR
•    suggesting potential peer reviewers for incoming manuscripts
•    tracking submissions as they move through the editorial process
•    proofreading final manuscripts
•    working with the editor and associate editors to schedule special issues
•    communicating with the editorial board and associate editors as necessary
•    helping to prepare the JAAR annual report
•    assisting with event planning associated with JAAR at the annual AAR meeting

Candidates for this job must have:
•    a broad interest in the entire field of religious studies
•    a passion for the written word
•    an interest in getting to know both the people and the research interests that make up the American Academy of Religion
•    good interpersonal skills
•    the ability to stay organized and on task
