History of Modern Globalization

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of History offers both a B.A. and M.A. in History and provides coursework for General Education and the Liberal Studies program.  The department has 9 full-time faculty members whose specialties include American, European, and Asian History.  There are approximately 150 B.A. History majors and 40 M.A. History students.  For more information on the Department of History, please visit: 

DUTIES OF THE POSITION:  The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate coursework in the history of globalization and in his or her own regional specialty in Latin America or East Asian history; lower-division World Civilizations coursework; coursework in the skills core sequence for history majors; other coursework as assigned.  In addition to teaching, all faculty are expected to sustain a record of scholarly work, advise majors, assist the department with administrative and/or committee work, and assume campus-wide committee responsibilities.  Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay include courses at the Hayward, Concord, and Online campuses.  

RANK AND SALARY:  Assistant Professor.  Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience.  Subject to budgetary authorization.


QUALIFICATIONS: Earned Ph.D. at time of appointment is required. Record of scholarship and teaching pertaining to modern globalization, broadly defined, with specializations in East Asian or Latin American History is required. Commitment to teaching and mentoring students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds is required. Candidates with experience in, or a demonstrated commitment to, the methodology and practice of Digital History, Public History, or the Teaching of History as a field, are preferred. Candidates should demonstrate experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or community service that has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence.
