Lecture | "The Social Sex: A History of Female Friendship"

Marilyn Yalom and Theresa Brown will talk about their new book, The Social Sex: A History of Female Friendship--a study of the evolution of women as friends in the Western world. The authors chronicle shifting attitudes toward friendship--both female and male--from the Bible and the Romans to the women's rights movement of the 1960's up to Sex and the City and Broad City. By adopting a cultural-historical approach, they trace a remarkable transformation of female friendship from near invisibility in the distant past to iconic prominence in the twenty-first century.
